BACKPACK DRIVE
Posted on Friday, Jul 27, 2012
This summer, Compassion team members have been serving the Crossroads Church Foster Park Program. Every Monday night, volunteers come to Foster Park in lansing to shoot hoops, play flag football, make crafts, cultivate a community garden, eat pizza, and talk about God with neighborhood children and teens.
Few of these kids have parents who are willing or able to bring them to church, and most will never have the opportunity to go to summer camp. The Foster Park Program provides a piece of those experiences for the children attending. The goal is to help each child know that God exists even in their often chaotic circumstances, that Jesus paid the price for their sins, and that they can trust and place their faith in Him.
At the end of the summer, Compassion would like to present each child in the program with a backpack filled with the supplies recommended by their school district. These gifts will be given with the prayer that they will serve as a reminder to the kids that Jesus loves them.
Please visit the Compassion table in the Riv lobby to sign up for this project and to pick up a list of necessary supplies.
