Riverview’s church planting strategy has three major elements:
Obviously, we can’t say that we are excited about church planting without planting churches! We locate church planters both inside and out of Riverview and assist them in starting new congregations. Church planters are assessed, trained, and coached by experienced church planters and leaders. Most of our churches are in the state of Michigan, but we also have churches all around our country and world, including a few places we can’t tell you about.
Two of Riverview’s pastors serve as national leaders with two different church planting networks (Acts 29 and Collegiate Church Network). We utilize these close relationships to leverage our resources and plant in a variety of contexts (urban, suburban, rural, university, international, and extreme poverty).
Each year, we give 10% of our money directly to planting churches. We help fund a Church Planting Residency that trains new church pastors in the context of a recently started church in Michigan. We also give directly to both church planting networks (to do the tireless and thankless job of administrating and coaching church planters) and church plants themselves.
