It’s all about Jesus.
When we say that, we aren’t trying to be cute or super religious. We simply mean that everything we do is all about the person and work of Jesus. Each week, we gather in large groups across the Lansing area in one of our venues to learn more about Jesus and we gather in each other’s homes throughout the week to talk about Jesus. We face outward to the nearly half a million people in the Lansing area and seek to share with them the good news that Jesus brings.
Riverview exists to proclaim the liberating power of the Gospel as we grow, serve, and go.
Proclaiming the liberating power of the Gospel doesn’t mean we carry a “Turn or Burn” sign, it simply means that as we live our daily lives as dads and moms and students and single professionals, we do it with a purpose. We don’t live our lives for ourselves, but for Jesus. We declare allegiance to Jesus, repent of our sins (which is a fancy way of saying we turn away from them), get baptized (to show the world our commitment to him), and plug into a local church.
Growing is a fundamental part of being a living organism. It’s been said you are either growing or you are dying. In a spiritual sense, we grow by working out how our old sinful selves is at odds with the new life we have been given in Jesus and choosing to follow Him instead. We think this works best with a group of people you trust, which is why we have something called Life Groups. In this group of around 10 or so people, you are able to be honest and deal with stuff instead of stuffing it down and living a miserable life. Jesus came to give life and life to its fullest and we want to grow in that every day.
Serving is crucial part of being a Christian. Jesus himself came, not to be served, but to serve and give His life as a ransom for many. We follow in his footsteps by becoming members of a local church and committing ourselves to one another. We share our lives, our resources, and our talents to help one another on our journey to becoming sacrificial followers of Jesus.
While we are growing and serving, we always maintain a commitment to go. As individuals, we share the love of Jesus with our friends and neighbors, we work in area non-profits and community events, we launch new initiatives to love our city, and do everything we can to tell more people about Jesus. We encourage every member at Riv to take a trip to Mazatlan, Mexico, a city we love and send hundreds of people to every year (yes, they come back…most of them). We also dream of starting new locations around the Lansing area and churches around our state and country.
Now why do we do all of this?
