Jacob Sim

Digital Content Producer

[email protected]

Jacob Sim serves as a Digital Content Producer at Riv, a role he humorously summarizes as simply “making things.” Whether he’s behind the camera as a videographer or photographer, editing projects, or diving into animation, Jacob’s creative versatility is at the heart of his contribution to Riv’s storytelling and visual presence.

Jacob first learned about Jesus growing up in the church, but it wasn’t until college—through meaningful connections with close friends in campus ministries—that his faith truly deepened. Since then, his journey has been marked by a growing understanding of who Jesus is and the profound impact of His sacrifice.

In his free time, Jacob can often be found on the golf course, snowboarding, relaxing at home with his wife and their cats, or enthusiastically exploring various hobbies. His favorite spot in Lansing? Simply put: home.

Jacob draws strength from 2 Corinthians 12:10, which reminds him that through life’s weaknesses and struggles, God’s power and faithfulness shine brightest. Initially connected to Riv during his freshman year of college in 2012, Jacob reconnected in 2020 after returning to Lansing, eager to use his talents to serve the community he’s come to cherish.

Hannah Bowman

Content Coordinator

[email protected]

As Riv’s Content Coordinator, Hannah Bowman keeps the creative wheels turning. Think of her less like a social media manager and more like a behind-the-scenes project wrangler—helping the content team stay organized, on schedule, and focused as they produce the many pieces that support Riv’s ministry. She brings clarity and momentum to creative work that impacts every part of the church.

Hannah grew up in a Christian home where faith and church were central to her upbringing. She became a follower of Jesus at a young age and has been learning ever since what it means to “Love Like Him.” One verse that’s especially meaningful to her is Psalm 116:8–9:

“For You have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, and my feet from falling. I will walk before the Lord in the land of the living.”

She loves how it poetically captures the nearness and care of God in her life.

In her free time, you’ll often find Hannah hanging out with her nieces and nephews—whether they’re cooking, drawing, or racing in Mario Kart (which she insists she usually wins). She’s a big fan of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, loves the 1993 film adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing, and proudly recommends her nephew’s LEGO stop-motion YouTube channel, @coolkidsstopmotion.

Her favorite Lansing spots? Horrocks for everyday vibes, and the peaceful countryside of Bath—where she grew up—for a deeper breath of home.

Hannah began attending Riv regularly in the summer of 2024 and now plays a key role in helping tell the story of what God is doing in and through our church.

Elizabeth Townsley

Communications Coordinator

[email protected]

As Communications Coordinator, Elizabeth Townsley keeps the Riv family informed and connected—managing everything from our weekly newsletter (The Weekly) to social media posts and event updates. Whether it’s crafting clear updates or making sure you know where to find the latest info, she’s behind the scenes helping the details come together.

Elizabeth grew up in the church and is grateful to have always known Jesus in some way. Over time, that knowledge grew into a deeper understanding of His love and care—a foundation she continues to lean on.

In her free time, Elizabeth loves solving puzzles of all kinds—crosswords, sudoku, and even the everyday mystery of what’s for dinner without a grocery run. She’s also a pro at helping her kids track down lost toys and socks.

If you’re looking for Lansing tips, she’s got you covered: Sugar Shack for cupcakes, the East Lansing River Trail for a walk, and Zoobies in Old Town for unbeatable truffle popcorn.

One verse she holds close is Psalm 27:13—“I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” It’s a reminder of hope and God’s presence here and now.

Elizabeth first found Riv in 2014, drawn in by the Saturday services that fit her work schedule and a Life Group that quickly helped her feel at home. Also worth noting: she doesn’t like milkshakes—and yes, she knows that’s controversial.

Jason Aten

Content Director

[email protected]

Jason serves as the Content Director at Riverview Church, where he leads the team responsible for all communications, graphics, video, set design, and social media—shaping the way Riv tells its story and engages its community through visual and digital media. He also helps design the worship service experience to support Riv’s mission each week.

Jason first learned about Jesus as a child in “kids church,” but his relationship with Christ became real during his middle and high school years through Campus Life and his church’s youth group. That foundation continues to shape both his personal faith and his creative work.

A lifelong musician, Jason has been playing piano since he was a toddler and picked up the guitar in college. When he’s not creating content or leading his team, you’ll likely find him on the sidelines of a soccer field, hanging out on the backyard patio with his family, or enjoying a good story—whether through a book, a podcast, or a great show like Drive to Survive, Ted Lasso, or Shrinking.

Jason and his family began attending Riv’s Westside Venue when it launched in 2015, having previously been part of the community at Trinity Church. He joined the Riv staff just over two years ago and continues to be passionate about helping people encounter Jesus—both in person and online. One of his favorite verses is Romans 8:28: “We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him.”

Mike Davis

Graphic Designer

[email protected]

Mike Davis is the creative mind behind many of the graphics you see around Riv—from weekly service slides and printed materials to web designs and RivKids visuals. If it’s got color, type, or animation, there’s a good chance Mike had a hand in making it. He’s also the animator behind Bri, the RivKids Bible robot, bringing faith and fun together in a way only he can.

Mike first came to Riv in 2012 with his wife after a recommendation from her coworker, and they’ve been part of the community ever since. He grew up knowing about Jesus—so much so that at one point, his parents thought he might become a pastor. But Mike felt more at home with a sketchpad than a sermon. He was baptized in 8th grade and describes Jesus simply: “my homeboy… he’s got me no matter what.”

When he’s not designing for Riv, Mike loves making things at home—drawing with his kids, building random house projects, or getting lost in the world of The Legend of Zelda. His favorite spot in Lansing? Home. Favorite podcast? Design Matters with Debbie Millman. And if you ever want to talk dinosaurs, design, or How It’s Made, he’s your guy.
