As Riv’s Audio Lead, Myka Spoelma helps care for the behind-the-scenes details that keep the sound running smoothly. She supports our volunteers and maintains equipment to make sure band practices and weekend services feel seamless—and that everyone involved feels equipped and encouraged.

Myka first connected with Riv in 2021 after moving to Lansing, and quickly found community through the internship program and worship team. Her love for Jesus was sparked early on, thanks to a simple but profound conversation with her grandpa about a love she didn’t have to search for. While she can’t pinpoint the exact moment her faith began, she knows something changed that day—and she’s been running toward Jesus ever since, inspired by Mark 9:15: “As soon as all the people saw Jesus, they were overwhelmed with wonder and ran to greet him.”

Outside of Riv, you’ll often find Myka spending time outdoors with the people she loves, creating something beautiful through music, painting, or wood burning. She’s a big fan of Love Does by Bob Goff, the writings of C.S. Lewis, and the TedTalks Daily podcast—anything that blends wonder, creativity, and heartfelt stories.
