Taylor wears a lot of hats on the Riv music team—she schedules bands, helps them prep for services and practices, runs auditions, leads both Prep Band and Youth Prep Band, and supports the Music Director in bringing the ministry’s vision to life. Her role may be described as “all the in-betweens,” but her impact is anything but in-between.
Taylor first came to Riv eight years ago, attended one service, and immediately knew something was different. After seeing the band lead worship in a way she hadn’t experienced before, she called the church the next day and asked for an internship with the music team. The rest is history.
She’s passionate about creating opportunities for people to use their gifts to serve, especially when it comes to teaching band skills she wishes she had learned earlier. Through the Prep Bands, she helps equip musicians with the tools—and confidence—they need to grow. Taylor also loves challenging assumptions about what worship music can be, believing that all kinds of music can point people to Jesus in powerful ways.
Outside of Riv, you’ll probably find Taylor reading, lifting weights at the gym, paddleboarding, line dancing, or stargazing from her porch. She’s always up for an adventure—even if it’s just turning everyday tasks into something fun. Her favorite verse, Hebrews 11:1, reminds her that faith means trusting in what we can’t control, and finding confidence in belief itself.
If you’re ever looking for book recommendations or a new podcast, Taylor’s go-tos include Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas, Once Upon a Broken Heart by Stephanie Garber, and the music podcast Switched on Pop. Just don’t ask her to pick a favorite spot in Lansing—she lives too far away—but she’s a fan of the gym and the Lansing Shuffle.
