He Is
Colossians 1:15
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
Colossians 1:16
For everything was created by Him, in heaven and on earth, the visible and the invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him.
Colossians 1:17
He is before all things, and by Him all things hold together.
When my husband died, he was so famous for being a non-believer that many people asked me if Carl had ever changed and become a believer in life after death. I don’t expect to be reunited with Carl. We never trivialized the meaning of death by pretending it was anything other than a definitive separation. Every moment we were alive and together was miraculous. We knew we had been favored by chance. That pure chance has been so generous and kind as to allow us to find each other, that we were able to be together for twenty years. That is something that sustains me and is much more meaningful than the idea of seeing him again someday.
– Ann Sagan
Psalm 94:3-9
Lord, how long will the wicked—how long will the wicked celebrate? They pour out arrogant words; all the evildoers boast. Lord, they crush your people; they oppress your heritage. They kill the widow and the resident alien and murder the fatherless. They say, “The Lord doesn’t see it. The God of Jacob doesn’t pay attention.” Pay attention, you stupid people! Fools, when will you be wise? Can the one who shaped the ear not hear, the one who formed the eye not see?
Psalm 94
Colossians 1:18
He is also the head of the body, the church; He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He might come to have first place in everything.
2 Corinthians 5

The Main Thing
Colossians 1:15
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
John 14:9
The one who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
Colossians 1:16-17
For everything was created by him, in heaven and on earth, the visible and the invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities— all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and by him all things hold together.
Colossians 1:18
He is also the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that he might come to have first place in everything.
Colossians 1:19-20
For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile everything to himself, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.
John 10:30
“I and the Father are one.”
Hebrews 2:17
Therefore, he had to be like his brothers and sisters in every way, so that he could become a merciful and faithful high priest in matters pertaining to God, to make atonement for the sins of the people.
Which version of ‘Jesus’
do you encounter?
- Partisan Jesus
- Self-Help Jesus
- The Jesus – Jesus (the actual Jesus)
“I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: ‘I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept His claim to be God.’ That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic–on a level with the man who says he is a poached egg–or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse…. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come up with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.”
– CS Lewis, Mere Christianity
Philippians 2:5-8
Adopt the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus, who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God as something to be exploited. Instead he emptied himself by assuming the form of a servant, taking on the likeness of humanity.
Philippians 2:5-8
And when he had come as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death— even to death on a cross.
Philippians 2:9-11
For this reason God highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow— in heaven and on earth and under the earth— and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Romans 5:12,15,18
Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, in this way death spread to all people, because all sinned…
Romans 5:12,15,18
But the gift is not like the trespass. For if by the one man’s trespass the many died, how much more have the grace of God and the gift which comes through the grace of the one man Jesus Christ overflowed to the many…
Romans 5:12,15,18
So then, as through one trespass there is condemnation for everyone, so also through one righteous act there is justification leading to life for everyone.
John 3:16-17
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only son, so that whoever believes in him, will not perish, but will have everlasting life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
We’re excited to host VBS this summer! Here, you can register your kids for VBS, sign up to volunteer, and donate supplies we’ll need to make VBS a success.
Our VBS will take place July 10-14 from 6-8:30pm, and we’re running it consecutively at all three Riv venues.
Our vision and hope is that we will reach kids in our community with the gospel in a fun, engaging way. We’d love your help, and have lots of different ways you can get involved. Take a look at all of the opportunities available, and let us know if you’d like to have a role in leading kids to Jesus.
