Pursuing Peace In A Divided World

It feels like our world is more divided than in any time in recent memory and the church almost seems to be worse. As Christ followers, how can we approach our differences with respect and seek to understand one another, rather than immediately push against those with whom we disagree? And why does that matters so much for our Gospel witness?
