Exodus

The book of Exodus is more but not less than a story.

Exodus is the historical account of the people of God who thought He had forgotten and abandoned them, people who were beginning to wonder if those 400-year-old stories of a supreme higher power who chose them and loved them were make-believe.

But they were not forgotten.

In fact, the literal Hebrew name for this book is “And these are the names…” God knew their names, not just in the moment He called them to mind to rescue them but even in the moment of their most severe oppression and loneliness. He never forgot them, but they had forgotten who He had called them to be.

Exodus is not just a story but your story. It’s a narrative of forgetfulness and God’s unwavering faithfulness in remembering your name. It’s the story of a rescue plan that has always been in place for you, even when it was not visible to you. It’s a pre-story, foreshadowing the most incredible story of all time, the saving work of Jesus.

Over the next seven months, we will journey with God’s people through captivity and deliverance. We will look into the mirror of God’s Law that shows us who we really are and discover who we are meant to be and who and how we are meant to worship.

God also said to Moses, "Say this to the Israelites: The Lord, the God of your ancestors, the God of Abraham. the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is my name forever; this is how I am to be remembered in every generation."
