Ephesians 1:18-2:10; Colossians 3:1-3

Conversation with your Life Group:

  • Take a few minutes to review the Scripture from Ephesians 1:18 – 2:20 and Colossians 3:1-3. What verses or ideas stand out to you from these passages? What questions do you have? What would you like to remember and apply to your life?
  • Look again at Ephesians 2:1-11. Describe your sinful condition. Then, describe what’s true of you right now because of your position in Christ. What is the difference between your sinful “condition” as a human being and your “position” in Christ? What impact does this have on how you think about yourself moment to moment?
  • Read Ephesians 1:11-14. What is the “inheritance” that we have obtained in Christ? How does your future inheritance affect the way you think and live today? What are the “shiny objects” that distract you from this perspective?
  • Have you experienced the “richness” of God’s mercy? Have you been saved by the “immeasurable riches” of His grace? Read Colossians 3:1-3 one more time. Are you “seeking the things that are above?” What opportunities will you have this week to show mercy and grace to others?

Romans 5; Romans 7:7 – 8:1

Conversation with your Life Group:

  • Take a few minutes to review the Scripture from Romans 5:1-15, Romans 6:1, & Romans 7:12 – 8:1. What verses or ideas stand out to you from these passages? What questions do you have? What would you like to remember and apply to your life?
  • Describe the pattern of guilt in your life. How common is it for you to experience guilt? What situations bring about guilt? Does it linger? How do you typically handle it? How can the Bible play a role?
  • How will you “remember to remember” the truth of your position in Christ this week? Share a specific way you will remind yourself daily that “you are not condemned.” (Romans 8:1)
  • What are specific ways you can speak and act that will help others experience God’s mercy and grace? Who can you forgive? Who can you listen to and pray for? Who can you encourage with the Gospel?

Hebrews 10:12-24

Conversation with your Life Group:

  • Take a few minutes to review the Scripture from Hebrews 10:12-24 and 1 Corinthians 13. What verses or ideas stand out to you from these passages? What questions do you have? What would you like to remember and apply to your life?
  • Read Psalm 103:12. Do you believe (REALLY believe) that, in Christ, God has removed your transgressions (sins) from you, as far as east is from the west? What makes this truth difficult for you to believe?
  • Read 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. Do you have a loving attitude? Specifically, are you patient? Kind? Do you avoid envy? Boasting? Are you arrogant? Rude? Do you insist on your own way? Are you irritable? Resentful? Do you rejoice in wrongdoing, or in truth? Which of these are strengths? Where do you need to grow? How does your position in Christ free you to truly love others?
  • How are you doing with the “one another” deeds of love that are found in the Bible? Do your actions toward others help them experience Jesus? Are you confident enough in your position in Christ to be able to to show uncommon love and grace toward your fellow sinners?
  • Take a few moments to pray for your attitude and actions to grow to be more like those of Jesus, and pray also for the people you will interact with in during the upcoming week.

  • Read Matthew 20:1-16. Have you ever felt like those hired in the morning? When does this happen in your life?
  • Discuss the three reasons that drive obedience: Reward, Duty and Fear. Which of these do you identify with most? Which do you use in your own life with other people?
  • “With Christians, it’s not a performance issue but an emphasis issue.” What are some “do’s” in the Scripture you want to begin thinking about and applying to your life? Use the above passages as a starting place for some “do’s” in Scripture.
  • Take time to review what we learned in this series about being seated in the heavenly places with Jesus. Take time to think about Scripture or ideas from the series you want to remember and apply to your life.
