Conversation with your Life Group:

  • Take a few minutes to review the Scripture from Psalm 90 1:-17, Ephesians 5:5-21; Matthew 23:5; James 4:12; Proverbs 15:13. What verses or ideas stand out to you from these passages? What questions do you have? What would you like to remember and apply to your life?
  • Consider the following: what do you tend to reflect on, worry about, dream of, and what are your life goals? Do you spend most of your mental energy focused on the past, present, or future… or eternity?
  • Read Psalm 90:10-12. How is the human view of time different from God’s view of time?
  • An eternal legacy comes from walking with & working for God. In what ways are you presently succeeding and lacking in establishing such a legacy?
  • If your life were to end today, what would your legacy be? What spiritual, intellectual, relational, vocational, and social capital would be left for the people you love?

Mark 2:23-3:1-6; Matthew 11:28-30; Isaiah 57:20; Hebrews 4:9-10; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Ephesians 2:10

Conversation with your Life Group:

  • Take a few minutes to read aloud the Scripture from Mark 2:23-3:1-6; Matthew 11:28-30; Isaiah 57:20; Hebrews 4:9-10; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Ephesians 2:10. What verses or ideas stand out to you from this passage? What questions do you have? What “next step” are you considering as a result of your interaction with God’s Word?
  • Take a moment to consider the connection between physical health and spiritual well-being, how do you think they are related? Why do you think people often struggle with overwork and feel unable to relax?
  • How would you describe your own relationship between work and rest?
  • Read Mark 2:23-28. How is Jesus’ attitude about Sabbath rest different from that of the pharisees?
  • Consider the truth of Hebrews 4:9-10. How does the perfection of God’s work – the life, death, & resurrection of Jesus – enable Christians to find the ultimate rest for their souls?
  • Since a relationship Jesus provides the ultimate foundation for rest, what practical steps can you take to rest well (knowing that ‘in Christ’ you have nothing to prove & no one to impress)? What can you start and stop doing to live a more (spiritually and physically) healthy and joyful life?

1 Corinthians 12-13

Conversation with your Life Group:

  • Take a few minutes to read aloud the Scripture from 1 Corinthians 12-13. What verses or ideas stand out to you from this passage? What questions do you have? What “next step” are you considering as a result of your interaction with God’s Word?
  • Take some time with your Life Group to have each individual make a list of 3 different gifts/talents that they have. Go around your group and share how you could possibly use that within Riverview and/or for the benefit of the greater Church body.
  • Sometimes it’s hard to think of gifts and talents that we can use within the church. Why do you think that is? What obstacles get in the way of using our gifts and skills to help build up the church?
  • The Apostle Paul talks a lot about unity within the Corinthian church. One of the greatest things that lead us away from that is thinking of ourselves. Do you wrestle with bringing yourself glory or fame with the gifts you have? Compare the differences that could come from using your gifts for your own agenda vs. the benefit of the entire church.
  • We can use our gifts to reach those outside of the church. What are some ways that you can leverage your gifts to proclaim the Gospel?
