Reconciled Hostiles Proclaiming Reconciliation

Justin Detmers

Colossians 1:21-23

What comes to mind when you think about the word “hostility?” Christians were formerly hostile to God, but now have been reconciled to Him by Jesus’ sacrificial work on the cross. Pastor Justin Detmers calls us to stay grounded in the faith in large part by furthering the same ministry of reconciliation that we received.
Colossians 1:21-23

hostiles

Once you were alienated and hostile in your minds expressed in your evil actions.

Colossians 1:21

Most sinners will own that they have bad hearts. They will own that they do not love God so much as they should do; that they are not so thankful as they ought to be for mercies; and that in many things they fail. And yet, few of them are sensible [enough to understand] that they are God’s enemies. They do not see how they can be truly so called…

Jonathon Edwards

The mind-set of the flesh is hostile to God because it does not submit to God’s law. Indeed, it is unable to do so.

Romans 8:7

Once you were alienated and hostile in your minds expressed in your evil actions.

Colossians 1:21

For from within, out of people’s hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immoralities, thefts, murders, adulteries, greed, evil actions, deceit, self-indulgence, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness. All these evil things come from within and defile a person.

Mark 7:21-23

But now he has reconciled you by his physical body through his death, to present you holy, faultless, and blameless before him

Colossians 1:22

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, and see, the new has come! Everything is from God, who has reconciled us to himself through Christ and has given us the ministry of reconciliation. That is, in Christ, God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and he has committed the message of reconciliation to us.

2 Corinthians 5:17-19

But now he has reconciled you by his physical body through his death, to present you holy, faultless, and blameless before him  —  if indeed you remain grounded and steadfast in the faith and are not shifted away from the hope of the gospel that you heard. This gospel has been proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and I, Paul, have become a servant of it.

Colossians 1:22-23

Things that shift us from the Gospel:

1) False Teaching

2) Arrogance

3) Despair

4) Ridicule

Colossians 1:23

We remain grounded & steadfast when we proclaim & serve the Gospel
