The Trinity

God is so amazing that He can be both one God and three persons at the same time.

The Trinity is one God existing eternally as three distinct persons.

Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. (Deuteronomy 6:4-5)

Or is God the God of Jews only? Is he not the God of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also, since God is one who will justify the circumcised by faith & the uncircumcised through faith. (Romans 3:29-30)

You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder!  (James 2:19)

For you are great and do wondrous things; you alone are God. (Psalm 86:10)

God is one, but He is also more than one.

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. (Genesis 1:1)

Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. (Genesis 1:26)

To the saints and faithful brothers in Christ at Colossae: Grace to you and peace from God our Father. (Colossians 1:2)

See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. (I John 3:1)

For although there may be so-called gods in heaven or on earth—as indeed there are many “gods” and many “lords”— yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist. (I Corinthians 8:5-6)

…not according to Christ. For in Him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily… (Colossians 2:9)

But of the Son he says, “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever…” (Hebrews 1:8)

But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back for yourself part of the proceeds of the land? While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not at your disposal? Why is it that you have contrived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to man but to God.” (Acts 5:3-4)

There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— one Lord, (that’s Jesus) one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. (Ephesians 4:4-6)

If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.  I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth… (John 14:15-17)

The Trinity is central to the Gospel.

For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another. But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior,  so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. (Titus 3:3-7)

Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works.” (John 14:8-10)

…the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing… (John 5:19)

For I came down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. (John 6:38)

Jesus therefore answered them, and said, “My teaching is not Mine, but His who sent Me.” (John 7:16)

When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you. (John 16:13-15)

Relationships where we are called by scripture to submit:

Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. (Philippians 4:3-8)
