“I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand.”

– Jesus

I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. (John 10:11)

…I lay down my life that I may take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from my Father.” (John 10:17-18)

Jesus was claiming equality with God!

So the Jews gathered around him and said to him, “How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly.” Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in my Father’s name bear witness about me, but you do not believe because you are not among my sheep. (John 10:24-26)

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. (John 10:27-28)

Eternal life is a gift that Jesus gives and does not take back.

“I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.” (John 10:28-29)

Assurance:

All who are born again of the Spirit can, through the sure promises of God, be fully assured of eternal life from the very moment they put their faith in Christ. This assurance is not based upon any kind of human merit but upon the fact of God’s election, upon Christ’s complete payment for our sins, and upon the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, who is the deposit guaranteeing their inheritance.

Our salvation is based on Jesus’ performance, not our own.

Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life. (John 5:24)

If you are a Christian, God wants you to be assured of your salvation!

I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have eternal life. (1 John 5:13)

God promises that eternal life is irreversible.

Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life. (John 5:24)

God promises that eternal life is total forgiveness.

“I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more.” (Hebrews 10:17)

God promises that eternal life means your name is written in the book of life.

…whose names are in the book of life. (Philippians 4:3)

God promises that eternal life means you’ll never be condemned for your sins.

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. (Romans 8:1)

God promises that eternal life means you’ve been adopted into God’s family.

And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” (Galatians 4:6)

God promises that eternal life means you have permanent immunity from prosecution of your sins in the courtroom of God.

Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. (Romans 8:33)

God promises that eternal life means nothing can separate you from his love.

For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor any powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:38)

God promises that eternal life means that His Spirit in you is an unbreakable seal – guaranteeing your future with God.

In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory. (Ephesians 1:13)

Jesus said, “They shall never perish.”
