Good News Of Great Joy

Tony Pyle

Luke 2:8-20

With the Christmas season being at the end of the year, it leads many people to reflect on the past year. Some may have experienced a great year, while for others, it may have been a year filled with suffering and bad news. Pastor Tony Pyle shares how the news of Jesus Christ, the savior of the world, being born was exciting news for the people awaiting Him in Biblical times. Even for us today, in the midst of good or bad news, the greatest news we could ever receive is that the savior of the world was born and that salvation comes through faith in Him.

In the same region, shepherds were staying out in the fields and keeping watch at night over their flock. Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Don’t be afraid, for look, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people: Today in the city of David a Savior was born for you, who is the Messiah, the Lord.

Luke 2:8-11 CSB

Advice is counsel about what you must do. News is a report about what has already been done. Advice urges you to make something happen. News urges you to recognize something that has already happened and to respond to it. Advice says it is all up to you to act. News says someone else has acted.

Tim Keller

For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift— not from works, so that no one can boast.

Ephesians 2:8-9 CSB

One believes with the heart, resulting in righteousness, and one confesses with the mouth, resulting in salvation. For the Scripture says, everyone who believes on him will not be put to shame… For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

Romans 10:10-13 CSB

You are the light of the world. A city situated on a hill cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and puts it under a basket, but rather on a lampstand, and it gives light for all who are in the house.

Matthew 5:14-15 CSB

After seeing them, they reported the message they were told about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them… The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had seen and heard, which were just as they had been told.

Luke 2:17-18, 20 CSB

Don’t be afraid, for look, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people: Today in the city of David a Savior was born for you, who is the Messiah, the Lord.
