Faithful Steward

James Granger

God created everything, God owns everything, and everything that we have has been given to us by God. How do we go about using the things with which God has entrusted us? Pastor James Granger reminds us that when God gives us something, we are to steward it for His glory.

God owns it all

The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof,
the world and those who dwell therein,
for he has founded it upon the seas
and established it upon the rivers.

Psalm 24:1-2

The Mighty One, God the Lord,
speaks and summons the earth
from the rising of the sun to its setting.
For every beast of the forest is mine,
the cattle on a thousand hills.

Psalm 50:1, 10

We are stewards

“Oikos” – house, household

“Nomos” – law

“Oikonomos” – household manager, steward

Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it.

Genesis 1:26-28

Trust me people that know me know I’m not perfect, but I do try to live my life in a way that hopefully can be pleasing to my Maker, because I know I’m going to meet Him one day. And He’s not going to pat me on the back to tell me how many wins I had, or how much money I made, He’s going to hold me accountable to how I took advantage of the opportunity and the blessings that He gave me, the impact that I had on people.

Giving is good

The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

2 Corinthians 9:6-7

Saving is good

Wealth gained hastily will dwindle,
but whoever gathers little by little will increase it.

Proverbs 13:11

Living is good

And Nehemiah, who was the governor, and Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who taught the people said to all the people, “This day is holy to the Lord your God; do not mourn or weep.” For all the people wept as they heard the words of the Law. Then he said to them, “Go your way. Eat the fat and drink sweet wine and send portions to anyone who has nothing ready, for this day is holy to our Lord. And do not be grieved, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”

Nehemiah 8:9-10

Debt is bad

The rich rules over the poor,
and the borrower is the slave of the lender.

Proverbs 22:7

Money is a spiritual issue

But godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.

1 Timothy 6:6-10

He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves wealth with his income; this also is vanity.

Ecclesiastes 5:10

This is how one should regard us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found faithful.

1 Corinthians 4:1-2
