An Unfamiliar Beginning

Tony Pyle

The unique aspect to the Christian faith is that God came down from heaven to earth in order to save His own creation. The complete opposite of creation needing to work their way towards their creator. Pastor Tony Pyle elaborates on this idea by explaining how the Word of God took on flesh in the form of a baby, Jesus Christ. It is through this incarnation story that we see God gifting His creation with the means to salvation, through the birth of Jesus Christ.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

John 1:1-5

he had no form or majesty that we should look at him, and no beauty that we should desire him.

Isaiah 53:2

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 1:14

“When God showed up in Jesus Christ, he was not a pillar of fire, not a tornado, but a baby … Why would God come this time in the form of a baby, rather than a firestorm or whirlwind? Because this time he has not come to bring judgement but to bear it, to pay the penalty for our sins, to take away the barrier between humanity and God, so we can be together. Jesus is God with us.”

– Timothy Keller

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

Ephesians 2:8-9
