Inspiration Of The Bible

Steve Sommerlot

The Christian claim regarding the authenticity of the Holy Bible is that it is a book written by authors inspired by the Holy Spirit. But what does “inspired” really mean? Pastor Steve Sommerlot explains this concept of how God supernaturally guided all of the words in the Holy Bible to be written in the way they are currently presented. Through this God-inspired book, we are able to confidently say it is inerrant, consistent, and always pointing to Jesus.

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,

2 Timothy 3:16

knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation.

2 Peter 1:20

“The Bible, when correctly interpreted in light of the level to which culture and the means of communication had developed at the time it was written, and in view of the purposes for which it was given, is fully truthful in all that it affirms.”

– Millard Erickson

“The Bible is not a scientific book, it’s not a geography book, a geology book, an anthropology book or sociology book but inerrancy means that the Bible is truthful when it speaks to areas relating to science, geography, astronomy and history (for instance). The Bible was not written to have exhaustive knowledge in these areas – but it does truthfully point to historical people who lived in real geographical locations and understood things about science like the stars, the sun and the moon.”

2 Timothy 3:17

But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.

Ephesians 2:13

So put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander. Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation.
