The Apostles Creed
A creed is simply a statement of belief and we all have them. From yard signs to twitter bios to bumper stickers, our world is filled with little statements that define a belief that we hold tightly.
For centuries, the church has held the Apostles’ Creed as one such statement. Contrary to the title, the Apostles’ Creed wasn’t written by the apostles of Jesus. Rather, it came together over the first several centuries of the church’s existence and still holds various forms depending on the church or denomination.
There is beauty in both the simplicity and universality of the Apostles’ Creed; in both its weightiness and accessibility. It lists out a set of truths core to Christianity, which we hold in our closed hand. With so much confusion over what Christians do or should believe, this is an ideal time to look at this old statement.
